Selection help

How to choose a motor graders

Four things decide which model fits, before price is even discussed.

Match the grader to the surface, not the map

Site levelling and yard work need fine blade control more than weight. Road building and cut-to-fill need the heavier 220 HP class. Tell us what you are grading and the machine class becomes obvious.

Ripper or no ripper

A rear ripper lets the grader break hard soil and rock instead of waiting for an excavator. On mixed ground the ripper version avoids a second machine, which usually pays for the attachment quickly.

Check the shipping envelope before you commit

Graders are heavy and awkward. Confirm your port, whether the machine ships whole or partially disassembled, and how it will move from port to site before you place the order.

Operator and maintenance readiness

Automatic lubrication and accessible service points reduce daily maintenance, but a grader still needs a trained operator. Plan operator training and a spares holding into the purchase, not after delivery.

Questions

Motor Graders questions buyers ask

Answers written against the capacities and prices we publish, not against a template.

How much does a motor grader cost?

Published unit prices for the current range are around US$51,200 to US$52,000 per set. Final price depends on the engine class, attachments such as the rear ripper, and destination port. We quote each order with FOB or CIF terms before you commit.

Which motor grader suits road construction?

Road building with long runs and cut-to-fill work usually needs the heavier class, so the 220 HP 15 tonne machine is the starting point. Yard grading, airfield finishing and light road maintenance can be handled by the 125 kW and 180 HP units.

What does a rear ripper add?

A rear ripper lets the grader break compacted soil, old road surface and softer rock before the blade passes, so the machine does not need an excavator ahead of it. It is the usual choice where ground conditions vary across the site.

How do you ship a motor grader overseas?

Graders ship by flat rack, break bulk or in a container when partly disassembled, depending on the machine class and route. Send us your destination port and we will confirm the practical method, packing and the documents required for that destination.
